DAY 8: Making Good Choices

cookingAfter you’ve talked to a nutrition expert, you’ve got a choice. Will you eat well or continue to eat less than well? We’ve all heard the elementary school cafeteria mantra, “You are what you eat.”  The foods you choose to put in your mouth affect your body. Eating right is a choice and a discipline. The decision might seem easy, but it is the living out that requires vigilance.

I’ve mentioned before the various people I’ve seen in the gym over the years – especially the last four to five. Getting fit physically isn’t all about just working out. It’s about how you eat. I’ll never forget what an employee at American Family told me several years ago. He said, “The secret to a flat stomach begins in the kitchen.” Wow, did that ever hit home. People struggle to discover the elusive flat stomach and think it’s found the cardio and crunches. While both will help, it begins in the kitchen. People get frustrated with workouts because they don’t see a difference, yet they’ve never done anything different with what they eat. I’ve heard people say they go to the gym so they can eat what they want to eat. Listen, it doesn’t work that way. Want to be healthy, it’ll take exercise and a good diet.

Making good choices begins in the kitchen.
