DAY 4: Track Your Food

Earnings FiguresI remember a question my trainer asked me, “What did you eat yesterday?” That was several years ago; this was a major learning moment for me. I can still see the look on his face and it wasn’t a look of approval. He said, “Brad, you’re not eating enough. If you want to lose weight and build muscle, you need to eat more.” That sounded so counterproductive. How could you eat more and lose more? I’d spent months eating small amounts of empty foods. I’d hit a plateau by nearly starving myself from the calories and nutrients that were necessary for a healthier me.

He introduced to the MyFitnessPal application that day. I downloaded the app to my iPhone and started tracking my food. This meant I had to enter everything at every meal including snacks throughout the day. It was hard at first, but it soon became a habit. MyFitnessPal helped me stay on track with a protein, fat and carb balance and a daily caloric goal. This app was a huge factor in my success and continues to be a valuable resource today.
