Breakfast is probably the most important meal of the day. It jump starts your metabolism and breaks the fast since dinner the night before. Lots of experts lean into the justification. For the longest time, I rarely ate breakfast. I wasn’t hungry in the morning and it wasn’t until I learned the value of breakfast, I made it a habit. I experience more energy when I eat breakfast. Additionally, when I ate in the morning, it curbed my appetite for lunch which led to better lunch choices.
So for breakfast, I alternate and combine various options. Here’s a sample of items I’m eating (apparently not every item every day) in the mornings.
If I’m at home:
- Low-fat yogurt like CarbMaster and Siggi’s or a non-dairy yogurt like Forager.
- Oatmeal like Better Oats 100 Calorie
- Eggs like two eggs cooked well, hardboiled eggs or egg whites substituted periodically.
- Cereals like Go LEAN or Freedom Foods Ancient Grain Flakes
- Almond Milk like the unsweetened 30 calories variety
- Low-fat milk
- Fruit like bananas or blueberries (added to cereal)
- Coffee with Truvia and low-fat creamer
If I’m on the go:
- A BSN Protein Crisp Bar
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Egg White Delight (McDonald’s)
- Reduced-Fat Turkey Bacon and Egg White Sandwich (Starbucks)
Make breakfast a part of your healthier habit. Eat well; live well.
