I’m gonna run the risk of being labeled as one of those preachers who only talks or cares about money. For those of you that actually know me, that’s the furtherest from the truth.
But frankly, I’ve observed something over the years in churches. The Pareto Principle is at work in the local church. What’s the Pareto Principle? Basically, it is the 80/20 rule. Financially speaking, in the typical local church, 80% of the funding is given by 20% of its people. It’s pretty amazing to think many will sit in attendance at a local church this Sunday and supply nothing toward funding the mission. In all honesty and practicality, that ought not be, but unfortunately it’s the norm.
We each have a responsibility to give in some capacity; we give according to God’s provision. Everyone has something to give; everyone should participate. It doesn’t matter how big or little the gift, it’s about everyone doing their part and most importantly everyone being a part of the mission of a local faith community.
The mission of the church happens or doesn’t happen based on personal generosity. Can you imagine what might happen if everyone gave something this Sunday? Can you imagine if every church member and attender across the nation gave something this weekend through the local church where they gather? Churches don’t exist for a lack of vision, they live in the wake of generosity’s lacking – the inability to fuel and fund the mission.
This weekend, grow the percentage where you gather. Choose now to give. Drop something in the plate. Write a check before you head to a service this weekend so you can participate in the offering. Many churches actually offer online giving tools. In most cases you can visit your church’s website, click a give icon and follow the instructions. You can do that right now from your electronic device.
Choose to be a part of the solution this weekend. There’s no such thing as a free ride. In fact, someone is actually paying for it. Why not join the team and be a part of the solution? Let’s work for everyone giving this weekend. Everyone give something.
Mature Christians will always give as God has blessed them and are also very aware that He requires them to be good stewards of their giving as well.
