A Year Later…

meg02I received the call a year ago. There’d been an accident and Meg was at MCV. Making my way toward downtown, I received the call she’d passed and the family was headed back to the house. I remember driving up the drive that morning. Family and friends stood outside. My heart was broken and I had no words. All I could do was to be there. Sometimes the most comforting words are those spoken in a silent presence.

I still don’t know why or have any answers and perhaps never will. But, I do know that God has used the tragedy of Meg’s death for good in our community and beyond this region. Her life influenced many in Hanover. Her death impacted countless people she’d never met. People have been drawn to faith and a greater commitment as Christ followers as a result of this tragedy. Lives have been changed because of Meg’s story. I know this to be true as one who has been a part of countless meaningful spiritual conversations with people from all over Hanover.

Today, I pray for her husband, children, parents, siblings, in-laws and other family members as I have numerous times throughout the year.

I also pray for the other family involved in this tragedy as I have many times before too.

Today we’re reminded, reflect and pray.

Brad, I am so thankful to have a Pastor who not only loves the Lord with all your heart, but who also loves his church and the people in it with all your heart. I am blessed, our church family is blessed.

    Thank you,

Brad, thank you for who you are and what you are to the family that calls itself Cool Spring Baptist Church. My heart overflows with joy to have the privilege to worship where God reigns supreme, and where the Bible is taught as the Truth. Because of your great understanding of what God has called you to, you have been able to nurture, comfort, and inspire those who mourn, those who struggle, those who are in turmoil, and those who search for Truth in their lives. Your example in leading us through this overwhelming tragedy gives us hope for the future and a focus on what we need to be about. I thank my God for every remembrance of you. What a great gift we have been given in calling you Pastor! My prayers are with you daily as you face all the challenges of this congregation and community. Thank you for all you do and for doing it with such a sweet spirit. May your ministry be blessed and may you be used boldly for Christ’s purposes. God bless you.
