The headline definitely caught my attention. Really, could it be? Ted Haggard and Gary Busey are trading wives on an upcoming episode of Celebrity Wife Swap? Correction, Ted is still married though Gary has yet to marry his longtime girlfriend and mother of his youngest child. ABC confirmed the rumor. Personally, I think this a poor choice – on the part of both men. I’m not condemning; it’s just that I can see past the dollars signs on this one. Sometimes notoriety is not a good thing nor is every opportunity for publicity appropriate. This is another opportunity for corporate entertainment to poke fun at the Christian faith. Here’s Ted Haggard in a post moral failure appearance. He skipped out on a restoration process and then started a church contrary to sound advice. The new work’s theme is grace – so often the mantra in cases like this. Then there’s Gary Busey. He’s made the reality circuit. He states he’s born again and even has a leadership role with Promise Keepers. Yet, he remains unmarried to the mother of his son born last year. I’m not being critical or self-righteous, but where is the repentance, righteousness, and example on this one? I really want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I can tell ABC is going to have a lot of fun with this one at the expense of Christians. It’s too bad and even disappointing – another example of poor decision-making.
