I was listening to President Bush’s address while on the road this morning. A reporter asked him what’s most important in a candidate for president. I thought it was an intriguing question for Bush this side of the election process. He stated the most important aspect of the candidate is their set of guiding principles. Does the man or woman possess a set of principles for guiding decision making. If they’re a principled individual, the next question would be to define these principles. He referenced the need for leadership not based on focus groups or opinion polls. We need leadership by principled people. I believe that’s true. Leadership isn’t about pleasing people; it’s about doing the right things. Sometimes those two work in concert and other times they work in conflict. Go with doing the right thing. It may not be popular, but it’ll be right.
