My "New to Me" Car – Don’t Laugh!

By now, you’ve probably heard that I traded cars a couple of weeks ago. It all began with replacing Katey’s car. Over the past several months, we’ve had to put quite a bit of money into her car. Burning up the road between Marshall and Baytown, Jo and I decided it was time to get her something new. In all the car swapping, I traded in my car, too. I finally gave up the Suburban. After owning two of them (and I’ve enjoyed them) it was time for a change.

I have to admit; I’ve taken a lot of abuse over my “new to me” car. I’ve heard a range of comments – everything from outright laughter to just simple disbelief. I have to say that I’m comfortable in my masculinity to drive my new ride even though I did remove the vase from the dash. I am now a proud owner of a Volkswagen Beetle. Jolanta likes it, as do the kids. I have enjoyed saving on several fronts such as the vehicle cost and the operational cost, too. It’s almost like I got a raise, but don’t tell the Staff Committee! For the first time in years, I can now park my car in the garage – another nice benefit.

I do have a question for all the punch buggy admirers. For years, my kids have popped each other reciting the “punch buggy – no punch back “ phrase whenever they saw a Beetle. What do you say when you are actually a passenger traveling in the punch buggy? Can you just hit each other without any disclaimer?

Kaitlyn Jane Dupont is an expert on the “punch back”. I will be sure to ask her when she returns to town.

Really liked your comments on change. I must have that same attitude or I couldn’t make it through this journey called life.

    Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving. BDykes
