He Will Hold Me Fast

We sang this new “old” song last Sunday during the middle of my talk.

While the version we sang is a little different than the original composition, I love the story behind the words. Robert Harkness, a hymn writer and composer in the early 1900s met a young believer dealing with the fears of being unable to maintain his relationship with God. He was consumed with being unable to hold out and finish the race. This young man needed the assurance his relationship with God was God caused and God kept. Some time later, Harkness would write a letter to Ada Havershon spelling out a need or a song which would give assurance in the Christian life. She would write this hymn “He Will Hold Me Fast.”

I love the words. Sometime we just need the nudge of reminder – He causes and He keeps.
