Why I Quit Watching FOX News

No-Fox-newsHere are five quick and easily articulated reasons. And yes, these are coming from a conservative.

1. There’s a noticeable lack of journalistic inquiry and depth of reporting. You get a party line and not an explanation.

2. FOX News appears to go out of their way to make conservatives look uneducated and even stupid.

3. FOX News demonstrates a significant lack of respect for women. Not only is there a disproportionate number of beautiful blond women in front of the camera, but FOX reveals way too many short skirts on the set. They sell sex not journalism.

4. FOX doesn’t live their “Fair and Balanced” brand. FOX News typically touts a far-right doctrine and condemns those with other viewpoints rather than intelligibly discuss viewpoints.

5. Finally, FOX News doesn’t take serious matters seriously. The recent debate is a prime example. Instead of an authentic debate, FOX gave us a circus. Instead of introducing serious candidates to a national audience, candidates jumped through hoops and performed tricks for a paying public. FOX News had an incredible opportunity, but blew a very serious moment.

What would bring me back? If FOX News took a more serious approach to journalism, valued women and took a true fair and balanced approach to reporting. But for now, this conservative will get and filter his news from other sources.

Wow, this is one of the rare times that I do not agree with you. Fox is not perfect, and I certainly am not. But just as we need to stay connected at Cool Spring Baptist Church, so we also need to stay connected to events happening around the world. If not Fox News, than whom? I have tried other so called news outlets and they are so liberally biased and anti-God that I cannot use them for my source.

Hi Tom, thanks for commenting and for disagreeing. You are correct – FOX isn’t perfect and I know of no perfect news site. I spend a lot of time reading and filtering as I’m sure you do as well. Personally, I don’t have a go to list, but survey various outlets and utilize apps such as Zite and Flipboard for my smart devices which pull stories from various sources based on subject matter and reading history.

Probably the “straw” for me was last night’s debate. As I’ve read through my Twitter feed this morning, lots of younger voting American’s saw last night’s program as a joke. FOX missed a huge opportunity to provide debate on real issues between candidates and allow a sane and conservative agenda to be heard. Instead, celebrity and personality ruled the evening. Just my opinion – of which everyone has one 🙂

I agree FOX did incredible damage to their image with the debate. They had an opportunity to show up professionally and ask debate related questions and instead they turned it into a circus with Megyn Kelly at the center of it all. And for any young people who watched for their first time, they didn’t get the benefit of seeing a debate & now they think it’s all a circus & what’s the point of bothering to vote.

On point #1, I think that is a true & sad fact that represents how ALL media operates today. It’s about twisting truths and not digging deep into the truth in order to get the most viewers & therefore the most ad dollars. But I’m not sure where to turn when it comes to truth/depth in News on the television.

I agree on all your other points as well except #4. They are “supposed” to be a far-right news channel, so I have no issue with them always focusing on the far-right doctrine, however, I agree they need to explain the positive points of a far right doctrine so our young people develop a clear understanding of what being a conservative means. Instead of providing education, Fox likes to poke the left wing bears a bit too much to the point they just look like big bully’s sometimes which isn’t good for their image.

FOX used to be good about 10 years ago. I guess it’s time for a new right wing news channel. If it doesn’t turn around our young people are going to be politically lost & agnostic which is a dangerous place for our country.

All of the networks are liberal and far left. Fox gives you a little bit of the truth and viewpoints. If you want in depth viewpoints and truth from Christian news sources as to what is going on in our country, try Christian radio stations such as American Family Radio. 88.1 fm I trust Christians more than secular viewpoints. Network reporting is ” entertainment tonight ” on steroids. Doug Jones

        Doug,

Thanks for the comment. I think your comment about network reporting like “Entertainment Tonight” is right on target.

I stopped watching Fox News because every time I go there, I have to see that foul-mouthed,arrogant, narcissistic, bimbo on the screen. No wonder he’s leading all the polls – you’re giving all the free publicity.
