There’s a Potential Merger Conversation Happening…

multisite map copyCommunication and transparency are essential in an organization. That’s why I want you to be informed about a now public conversation taking place in our community. I would rather you hear it from me than to be caught unaware later this week.

I recently met several times with leadership from Chamberlayne Baptist Church. The conversation was about a merger with Cool Spring. Chamberlayne is approximately 2.5 miles from our campus on Atlee Station Road.

Chamberlayne recently lost their pastor and are researching various options. I am impressed with the leadership I’ve met and their sensitivity to discerning God’s next step. These are great people with a real desire to follow Christ. I commend them for having out of the box conversations.

Merger and/or intentional multi-site work is a part of our strategy. We are in the very early stages of an initial conversation. Next weekend, I will meet with Chamberlayne to present Cool Spring’s strategy and vision as a church.

What does a potential new campus look like?  While articulating a vision is premature at this time, the future possibilities are many. If this comes to pass, we will network local and state partnerships to develop an intentional and relevant work in that community.

What about our leadership? Cool Spring leadership including Ministry Council and Deacon Team were briefed and affirm the continued conversation with Chamberlayne.

How long does something like this take? It can take anywhere from a few months to a year. There is a lot of work to be done to make a merger happen spiritually, relationally and legally. Of course, any official merger action would come before the church for approval.

As I know more, I will certainly share. These are definitely exciting days!
