Busy Has Been the Buzz

Busy has been the buzz for several weeks. Last weekend, I finished a teaching series on busyness. We can all use a little help here since it is where many of us reside.

Here are some of my takeaways from the series:

  • Seasons of busy aren’t necessarily bad
  • I need to know the difference between busy and busyness and recognize the difference in my life.
  • In busyness, the important things can easily slip between the cracks and get away from me
  • I need to do what matters most
  • Doing what matters most means I’ve got to intentionally focus and prioritize
  • Busyness should never define me
  • Busyness can easily steal my identity
  • My identity is so much more than the pace of my schedule or life
  • That “Busyness” Badge of Honor that I love to wear is nothing more than a badge of pride and it needs to be removed
  • I’ve got to resist the temptation to compare my pace to others
  • My validation as a person has nothing to do with being busy or not
  • Before life gets out of control, I’ve got to repent of the pace
  • In Him I live, have my comings and goings and know my existence
  • Reminder: Don’t use busyness as an excuse to neglect those closest to me
  • Reminder: Don’t use busyness as an excuse to escape the disappointments of the past
  • Reminder: Don’t use busyness as an excuse to avoid intimacy with God

Hey, Brad, the series was great, and appropriate for us all. I probably have a slower life than most people, but after listening to your series, I had to let go one of my volunteer activities. Not just because it made my life busier, but because of how I felt about it. And ultimately, because it was harming my health. Thanks for the needed wake-up call.

Janet, thanks for commenting and sharing part of your journey. Life can so easily become cluttered, full and busy. I’m glad you took that first step to declutter and make space. That’s good stuff!
