Thief Makes Off With Offering

You think you’re safe at church, but that’s not always the case particularly in Lincoln, Nebraska. A man posing as an armored car guard made off with $145,000 in contributions. The story is that a man walked into the office and indicated he was subbing for the regular guard. In a matter of minutes, he was gone with the loot. Shortly thereafter, the “real” armored car guard arrives.

Sometimes, I’m amazed at what people will do. I generations past, people didn’t steal from the church. Offenders have become more brazen in today’s economy. According to the pastor, only about $4,300 of the offering was cash. The balance of the contributions was in check form. Members had to be contacted in order to warn their financial institutions.

You need to be careful out there. Our safe places aren’t as safe as they formerly were.
